On the Splitting Problem for Manifold Pairs with Boundaries
Abstract. The problem of splitting a homotopy equivalence along a submanifold is closely related to the surgery exact sequence and to the problem of surgery of manifold pairs. In classical surgery theory there exist two approaches to surgery in the category of manifolds with boundaries. In the rel ∂ case the surgery on a manifold pair is considered with the given fixed manifold structure on the...
متن کاملEfficient Edge Splitting-Off Algorithms Maintaining All-Pairs Edge-Connectivities
We present new edge splitting-off results maintaining all-pairs edge-connectivities of an undirected graph. We first give an alternate proof of Mader’s theorem, and use it to obtain a deterministic Õ(m + rmax · n2)-time complete edge splitting-off algorithm for unweighted graphs, where rmax denotes the maximum edge-connectivity requirement. This improves upon the best known algorithm by Gabow b...
متن کاملProjective Splitting Methods for Pairs of Monotone Operators
By embedding the notion of splitting within a general separator projection algorithmic framework, we develop a new class of splitting algorithms for the sum of two general maximal monotone operators in Hilbert space. Our algorithms are essentially standard projection methods, using splitting decomposition to construct separators. These projective algorithms converge under more general condition...
متن کاملSpatial separation of photo-generated electron-hole pairs in BiOBr/BiOI bilayer to facilitate water splitting
The electronic structures and photocatalytic properties of bismuth oxyhalide bilayers (BiOX1/BiOX2, X1 and X2 are Cl, Br, I) are studied by density functional theory. Briefly, their compositionally tunable bandgaps range from 1.85 to 3.41 eV, suitable for sun-light absorption, and all bilayers have band-alignments good for photocatalytic water-splitting. Among them, heterogeneous BiOBr/BiOI bil...
متن کاملTHE MULTIPLICITY OF HEAVY QUARK PAIRS FROM GLUON SPLITTING IN ee ANNIHILATION
I will briefly review the progress which has been made in the investigation of secondary heavy quark production at LEP. I will show why a calculation of the secondary heavy quark multiplicity, keeping the dependence on an event shape variable, is essential for better exploitation of data, and I will present the results of such a calculation. This will be compared to Monte Carlo studies.
